On The Board

Max Scherzer (WSH)

The Washington Nationals' pitcher, who before the game had the worst ERA (4.60) among the starters of the team and had allowed the most home runs (9), including 4 in their last game, dominated the Detroit Tigers, reaching 20 strikeouts and tying the mark for K's in a 9-inning game (record is 21 K's in 16 frames). He is the fourth pitcher in history to reach that total of strikeouts and did it with the highest percentage (80.7) of strikes thrown (119 pitches - 96 strikes). Scherzer is the second of them that has also thrown two no-hitters.
His maximum number of whiffs prior to this game was 17, which got him his second no-hitter of 2015.

With his first victory against his former club, Max has beaten all 30 MLB teams, a mark he shares with John Lackey (Chicago Cubs) among active pitchers.
