On The Board

Bryce Harper (WSH)

The Washington Nationals' player is the first to reach the 100 home run mark with a grand slam (interestingly the day before, Jarrod Saltalamacchia - Detriot Tigers - also reached that mark but with his fourth career grand slam). Harper is the eighth youngest player to reach the century mark in home runs (6 have accumulated 350+ longballs, 3 are currently active, and 3 were selected into the Hall of Fame) and he is also the second one of those to have received the MVP award before reaching that amount of homers.

Extra: The Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins both dropped to a negative record of 0-9, which is the second time in the Modern Era (since 1900) that two teams start off a season with that record or worse. The first occasion was in 1988 when again Atlanta started off very bad, along with the Baltimore Orioles, and both finished the campaign with more than a hundred losses.
