On The Board

Victor Martinez (DET)

In his second consecutive game, he connected on a home run while appearing as a pinch hitter, in the previous game on the left side of plate and this time on the right. He is the first player to achieve this in his team's first two games in a season and is the eighth pinch-hitter to do it in consecutive appearances. In the prior campaign, only one pinch-hitter for Detroit hit a home run.

Extra: The San Diego Padres are the first team to get shutout three games in a row to start off the season and their opponent, the Los Angeles Dodgers, is the second club to give that amount of shutouts to begin a campaign (with a total of 25 runs scored which is the most for a team that did not allow any runs).
