Charlie Bennett
1896-1926
Bennett played 15 seasons primarily as a catcher.

In 1894, he lost both of his legs in a train accident and passed away in 1927.

In 1896, the new stadium in Detroit was named as Bennett Park in his honor.

From that year on, he was invited to throw the first pitch of each Inaugural Game.

He caught the first Perfect Game in history, thrown by Lee Richmond in 1880.
